These books will serve as the foundation of my classroom library. Students will be able to check out books that they can read both in and outside of class. Students will participate in small group discussions about the content of their books and the characters' lives making connections to the characters in their books and to one another. Students will recommend books to each other in our learning community based on the content of the books they've read and their classmates' interests. The books will serve as a way to help students connect with one another in meaningful ways around shared interests and experiences.
By connecting these high interest books from diverse authors to what we're reading in class, students will gain a better understanding of their book, our study in English class and themselves. Our class discussions will be richer and deeper because students will have more information to draw from as they form opinions and consider their places in the world
