Big changes are happening in our classroom next year! As a second year teacher, I am finally joining the Special Education community that my heart belongs to. Working alongside my FAVORITE Teacher Assistant and friend, we are ready for any challenges that come our way. The kiddos in our classroom struggle with regulating their emotions. This can lead to frequent outbursts and sometimes physical aggression towards others and even themselves. We are hoping to create the kind of environment that will help our students strive for success and foster a supportive, calm community that will in turn lead to fewer moments of struggle.
The items in our project will allow us opportunities to teach them strategies and guide them on the path to learning self-regulation. We know the importance of inspiring and encouraging positive mental health. Fulfilling this project will provide flexible seating options such as wobble stools and wobble cushions. It will also provide a rug and comfy pillows for our calm-down corner. These are just two small ways we can assist our students to progress. Finally, the Teachers Pay Teachers Gift Card will allow us to print calm down corner visuals, daily reminders of good choices, and other mental health and positive behavior activities. We are looking forward to helping all of our babies grow this year, not only in academics, but also in self awareness and understanding.
