The books and materials that I will purchase from this gift will provide me with a way to implement a school-wide reading incentive program, put the selected books in the students hands, and update our media center by giving the students kid-friendly areas to read.
My vision for this school-wide reading incentive program is to inspire our students to become avid readers, and to involve their parents by implementing book clubs.
To begin with, I think about the children who do not realize that reading can be a great source of enjoyment while learning about the outside world. Often parents who have never read for pleasure are not strong role models in this area, therefore the cycle continues. Hopefully this program will be the beginning of a positive approach in order to change this dilemma. Also, there are children who enjoy reading and are thrilled with exciting reading programs that provides both intrinsic and extrinsic rewards.
I plan to reward the students with brag tags.
Also, I will display pictures of students and the titles they have read in the hallway. As the students are reading the books, they will be recognized on Facebook and newsletters. I will provide dessert and taco parties, and I will reward them with trophies and tee shirts at an end-of-the-year ceremony.
I plan to purchase the 2021-2022 Sunshine State Books for our students and parents to read. Book clubs will be organized so parents and students can take part of book discussions on Friday afternoons. The parents will have the choice to attend in person or utilize Zoom/Google Meet.
This gift will provide me with the ability to put enough books in the hands of the children who are interested. Also, I plan to update our school library with kid-friendly furniture and decor.
