My classroom currently looks very institutional with very bland walls and floors and desks arranged in rows. I would like to create an environment that is warm and welcoming, where students can feel comfortable. My intention is to create "learning centers" in different parts of the classroom to be used for small group and independent learning as wells as areas where students can read quietly and comfortably. I am certain that more warm and inviting space will allow students to be at peace in a space that currently makes many students very anxious. By changing the atmosphere and with it the emotional state of students, I am certain that negative behaviors will be reduced and student achievement will improve. Books shelves are important pieces for the new independent reading corner I will create in this remodeled classroom.
