Flexible seating can allow students to choose their type of learning environment; ultimately choosing what works best for them. My students hardly ever want to sit at desks. They choose to lay on the floor with a clipboard, sit on a bean bag, take advantage of my "teacher chair" when appropriate, or even sit on the floor and use their desk seat as their workspace.
When students are comfortable, they are more motivated. I have noticed a great difference in my students when they are given a choice in their seating, as opposed to being told to sit still at a desk. They almost always choose an appropriate place to work, as well as engage in that work much more quickly when able to make this choice.
I feel I can do my best work when I'm comfortable, and I expect nothing else out of my students. The table I have selected will give students a sturdy place to work while also being able to choose how they use it. They could simply opt to sit on the floor at the table or use a cushion. I cannot wait to see my students put this table to great use. Thank you for your support!
