Think of our classroom as one that is student-driven. Imagine one big book club where the kids get to choose titles several times a year to read what interests them. They are paired with other kids who share similar interests. Together, they explore the book and have weekly book club meetings. No teacher-driven questions. I try to empower my kids with mini-lessons on how to read critically. They then do the heavy lifting. These are high-achieving kids who often do not have the financial resources to buy their own books on Amazon. While we use the local library as much as possible, there are not enough books for my kids to have literature circles.
