I am requesting collections of highly engaging series books for my readers. It is crucial that students are engaged in their reading during independent reading time. With this project, I would be able to add new and exciting books to our classroom library. The series books I am requesting are ones that students beg to read, fight over checking out in the library, and will spend their reading time fully engaged enjoying their reading experiences.
This project addresses the need for reading materials that meet the wide variety of levels and cultures of students that I serve in my classroom. As I teach mini-lessons on grade level content standards, students need materials that are on their individual levels to practice in. In addition to the materials meeting individual needs, the books collections I am requesting represent a variety of cultures allowing my students to see themselves in the books they are reading. These books will support our language arts objects all throughout the year by providing students with engaging independent reading books as well as provide me with excellent mentor texts in different genres.
Reading is more than just just accuracy and comprehension. Reading engaging books can be the door to a new world where a student can escape their reality and explore the curiosities of their heart. I have requested some STEM building materials including legos and Magnatiles which will be used to support students as they are inspired by the books they read to build and create new things. This project will be successful as soon as a student takes one of these books off the shelf and reads it. Reading engagement is key to reading growth and I will be able to determine success by doing engagement inventories in my classroom as students are reading these books.
