My students love to read in their place of choice. I am a big advocate for students actually enjoying reading, instead of feeling forced to. When I opened up my room for them to read where they wanted, I noticed changes in attitudes all over! However, I don't have many soft options around the room for them. I am hoping a large rug will make reading around the room, and morning meeting more comfortable for my kiddos!
My goal is to keep my room a comfy, safe place for all 18. This addition to my classroom library would make all the difference. I could give a majority of my reading lesson from the rug, and ensure that students are not cooped up in their desks. Normally, I read our story from my rocking chair and let students sit in whatever way makes them most comfortable. This really helps them listen, and engage. During our class meetings, we sing songs, and do chants to help us remember procedures. With a rug this big, my students would be able to do that comfortably!
This rug would help make learning fun, and enjoyable for all students.
