If we think back to our elementary school days, I think most of us can remember how hard it was to keep our tiny, energy-filled bodies at our desks for hours on end. The more antsy we got sitting in those hard, uncomfortable plastic chairs, the more distracted we'd get.
Flexible seating gives my students the freedom to be comfortable, instead of feeling confined to a desk and chair. A lack of comfort can lead to distracted and unproductive learners.
Flexible seating also helps build independent learners by giving them control of their learning. When students are able to make choices that work best for them, they are more likely to stay focused on the task at hand.
