I am requesting four Teachers Pay Teachers gift cards so that our students will l have access to reading resources to meet the needs of all students.
The reading materials that I am requesting, will allow ALL students to learn and grow. Unfortunately, struggling students risk losing the love of learning. Students deserve resources that allow for success regardless of ability.
The science of reading has shown that early prevention of reading deficiencies can element the need for interventions later on.
Statistics
1. 20% of students have a language-based learning difference.
2. Those students are still receiving INTERVENTIONS in 4th grade.
3. Research supports the use of explicit and systematic phonics and phonological awareness instruction for not only those 20% but all students.
4. Students with a language-based learning difference can learn to read with proper instruction using PREVENTION.
Resources are needed to help strengthen my current instruction, but also this new classroom practice. I want to focus on PREVENTION vs INTERVENTION. I want to give all children the abilities they need to succeed in reading. I want to be a part of this science and change in thinking. I want all children to SUCCEED. All children deserve to play on the same field. Kindergarten is the place to build this foundation.
