Choice is a powerful thing! Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning and make the choice of where they work best. During independent work times, they choose a location in the classroom that works for them. Currently, my students have been able to relocate to a variety of locations in our room such as: at different tables, sitting under desks, or sitting on the floor with a clipboard. Having students be comfortable during work helps tremendously with motivation. I have noticed amazing differences in my students when they are given a choice in their seating. They almost always make good choices about where they sit, are more engaged, and get more work completed than sitting at a traditional desk.
What I love most about flexible seating is that it personalizes learning for each student and helps them develop the skills to recognize their individual learning style.
After this past pandemic school year, I believe giving students a voice in their learning is more important than ever! I have seen how choice can positively affect my students' work and their own self-confidence. It is my hope that the additional options will help us grow even more!
