Purposeful play is very important to young learners. With the materials I am requesting, students will come into the classroom and have a choice of what they would like to do in the mornings. Students can choose to practice writing their letters with the Write the Letter Activity Center or use playdoh and uppercase and lowercase dough stampers to make their letters and words. They can build a marble run. Students will test their engineering skills with STEM toys. They can build a garden with Scientoy Flower Garden, design monster trucks using Snap Design Monster Trucks. Students will also be able to explore the effect of magnets using Magnet Movers. Items such as LInk ‘N’ Learn Links, Playstix, and Design Builders can be used with the STEM cards that I have previously purchased or as creative play. Students will be able to use these cards to build seasonal items as well as national and world symbols with these materials.
Making Mornings fun will allow all my students to interact with their peers instead of sitting at their desks doing a worksheet. Like adults, children like to share and talk to their friends when they come into the classroom. With morning tubs, students will be able to share about their evenings and weekends while they are playing. They will also have to learn to take turns and share materials.
These materials will also be available to be used during indoor recess. Some materials will also be used in learning centers throughout the day.
