I am requesting a dog crate, dog bed and hand sanitizer. We are welcoming a therapy dog to our class to help students build confidence and academic skills. This program aims to bring trained shelter dogs into schools to support the social-emotional learning of our students. Research shows pets make us happy, and pets in the classroom means a happier learning environment. This reduces student stress and leads to increased outcomes.
These skilled pets provide social-emotional relief to students who are stressed by typical educational experiences. This program focuses on students achieving awareness, finding feelings, encouraging empathy, cultivating cooperation, and dealing with decisions. To bring in a dog, we need a calm place for the dog to be when they need a break.
