In my English classroom students are asked to read 10-15 minutes everyday. I have books that have been handed down to me as a newer teacher to the west coast of the US. As well, I have done my best to populate the shelves with books that students may be interested in reading. When I am funded I will continue to allow students to read any book that I have available.
Students are able to use any books on my bookshelf. They will be able to check the book out for class and home use. It is my hope that these new books will continue to increase students' critical reading and writing skills. The more students can have a book that speaks to their struggles and potential successes, and shows them themselves, the more they connect, read and feel inspired to write their own stories with confidence.
