Through this book, students get both the issues of our legal system and powerful rhetoric to expand their thinking, deepen their discussions, and inspire their writing. It pairs well with classic essays and speeches on topics related to race, class, justice, compassion...mercy. Multiple lessons will be generated from this book as well tying it in to a larger quarter project and tangent references for subsequent projects through the year. Most importantly, it reinforces the notion of students being citizens of the world, of stepping outside of what they know and seeing what is for others.
