As a new teacher, I am working hard on building a class library that will suit all of my students. In my first grade class I will have a class library with books organized by themes where my students will be able to enjoy reading of their choice. Having a variety of theme gives my students the opportunity to find a book that is interesting to them.
These books will be widely used for different lessons throughout the day everyday. I will use these books for aloud book and guided reading to supplement curriculum. The stories will be followed up by lessons referencing the story and characters from the book to explore different ideas depending on what we are learning in class. I will also use these books to promote peer reading and individual silent reading.
