Flexible seating allows students to choose what works best for them which supports my student-centered classroom. The ability to choose where and with whom they sit helps them remain focused and engaged in work. Currently my students are choosing to work in a variety of locations in our room such as their desk, a table, on the floor with a clip board, or in a bean bag chair. An essential component in motivating students is ensuring that they are comfortable.
The products that I have selected will allow all students to choose a comfortable spot where they will be calm, focused, and productive.
The lap desks allow students to easily choose where they want to work and with whom. The chair ball allows students to move and bounce which helps keep students more alert and focused. The balance cushions are easy to move, allowing students to wiggle in their chairs or on the floor and can be especially helpful for students with sensory needs, including those with ADHD, ADD, and ASD. The bouncy bands for chairs are beneficial for students who may just need to wiggle as they can pull, push, or just rest their feet. The soft rocker allows for students to rock and be comfortable in an area of their choice in the classroom.
By allowing them to make a choice, students get more work completed and are less disruptive.
