By reading the immigration struggle of Enrique, my students see the textbook lessons come to life in their minds as we travel with him during his journey to join his mother. I also want my students to have a grasp on what the immigration struggle truly is, aside from what media tells us to think. This will encourage student's critical thinking and ability to write an essay on how the textbook and the novel communicate the same information. Also, it will prepare students for Junior High level discussion, literacy, and critical thinking skills for secondary education.
