I don't know about you but I hate being trapped in a seat behind a desk for hours on end; I like to get up and move around or stretch out and relax. When we allow our children to be comfortable they will be more willing to listen and learn. I teach Math, not the most exciting subject to many people, and I see my students zoning out during class or asking if they can go sit on the floor by the window to do their work. Some feel the need to stand and walk around because they cannot sit still.
If I can provide the classroom with different choices of seating from classic school desk to beanbags and pillows to lounge to yoga ball chairs to standing desks I feel the students will be able to find what works the best for them. This seating arrangement will also allow me to implement more varied curriculum to the classes such as quiz relays or other movement enhanced instruction.
