Organizing and maintaining a smooth-running reading block can be almost impossible without the necessary tools on hand. Throughout my years of teaching, I have discovered that the secret to a successful reading block includes great management, organization, having the necessary materials, and of course an ample amount of patience. All of these materials were selected with my students’ reading success in mind. When given the necessary materials needed for a reading block my students will be more engaged in their work and less disruptive of their peers and teacher. Since I work with disadvantaged students, whose family economic circumstances stops them from accessing the necessary materials needed to learn at school, I want to ensure that I have everything on hand. I included a timer as one of my materials because it will help us to minimize our transition time in between the different centers. The rolling cart will be used to keep all our materials such as pencils, pens, highlighters, papers, etc. nearby for easy access. The Lights and Sounds Buzzers are a great way to boost student engagement during any class activity or game. The wireless doorbell ringer will be used to get my students’ attention and to help with transitioning time. The headphones will be used during computer time, so students do not disturb each other. By donating to our class project, you will not only be helping us run an effective reading block but ultimately helping to increase reading achievement for all students.
