鈥淧ractice makes Perfect,鈥 is a common idiom with a substantial academic meaning in my class. Sometimes the basic operations of math are a struggle causing students to feel a financial career is out of their realm, so I practice more math. Because society often relies on A.I., students see no need to learn a new word, 鈥淲hat! A dictionary, I can ask Google or Siri.鈥 Relying on a computer hinders their own vocabulary expansion, causing them to shy away from reading more and more each year; hence, being a 5th grader reading below standard expectation. I-ready, Alex and IXL are computer-based interventions provided by schools. Even though my 34, 5th graders are digital masters I feel many would enjoy learning games such a scrabble and chess if given the opportunity. By creating intervention games for both ELA and math I can remove the monotony of at least 40 minutes of clicking per day. 鈥淕oldfish,鈥 has parts of speech i.e., homophones or synonyms on cardstock laminated as a deck of cards for vocabulary practice. Math has a self-made tic tac toe board. The X and O you mark is determined by multiplying the numbers on the dice and covering the instructed place value and digit. Manipulatives are a small but important element of the community we build. When developing and presenting their business plan, vocabulary is important for creating a competitive commercial and billboard. Math is a necessity when creating coupons and figuring out what percentage of a discount to give and still make a profit. The fact that students are eager and asking to participate in these centers daily lets me know they not only enjoy the M & M's (Many Manipulatives), but they are growing and learning, 鈥淧ractice makes Perfect.鈥
