The class sets of the novels I am requesting are ones that are not only challenging, but also include critical essays, an author interview, and applications of literary theory. Students will not only read the novel, but they will read and apply the literary theories and critical essays to their understanding of the novel. The experience of utilizing varying perspectives will help students move beyond reading comprehension into critical analysis, which is a necessary skill for not only their end-of-year test, but is one that will carry over into their collegiate studies.
