The students do not have a library to access free reading choice books. Reading for fun has been shown to increase academic scores across all subjects. It helps my students to escape to other universes, dive into an amazing biography, and learn about important life lessons.
In funding this project, students from all grades (9-12) will be able to check out a book from my classroom. This creates book access to more then 400 students. The students at Delta come from all three cities; Pasco, Kennewick, and Richland. Many are unable to make a journey to the public library. I have been able to start building a classroom library by scouring thrift stores, yard sales, and old books the library will give me.
Purchasing these high interest, new titles, will get our students so excited about reading. They had a rough year last year and I can't wait to see their faces when they realize we have more reading options!
