My students are bright, energetic and eager to learn. They come to school each day knowing they are expected to learn, but that I will also be there, excited and ready to teach them. Most of the time, they are pretty excited about it, too! At the end of the day we recite our classroom pledge, which ends with the lines "I want to achieve. My teacher believes I can achieve. I will achieve." They are so proud when they gain new skills.
They are a diverse bunch -- nearly half are English Language Learners and one-quarter are new to the public K-5 school this year. Schoolwide, about 85 percent of our students qualify for free or reduced-price meals.
