As a young girl growing up with an interest in science, I often felt like I was not reflected in any of the materials that I was studying. Too frequently, STEM curriculums tend to focus on white and male discoveries which make the field seem inaccessible for individuals who may not identify as such. Racially, my students identify as majority minority, and most of them come to us from low-income households.
My goal is that with the books and materials in my list, my students understand that scientific studies and discoveries are attainable goals as science is many of their favorite subject.
Students will be asked to open their minds to new concepts to grow not only as individuals, but as a community making our world a better place.
