Each of my students is unique. There are varieties of learning styles. One student said that he really enjoyed the social studies lesson on the Creek and Cherokee. Of course I had to ask him what he enjoyed about the lesson. He said he liked the discussion, and it was fun the way I told the story. My students are unique but what they do have in common is that our school is located in Georgia, in a low income community. Some of their parents work hard, and would want better for their sons and daughter. However some of my students are in family situations where one parent is incarcerated, and they are being raised by another family member who is doing the best they can. Some students have never been out of their home city, and have never had the luxury of going to a public library. I'll never forget when one student came late one morning and did not have breakfast. After that day I decided to keep snacks. Our class affirmation: I Am Somebody.
