This will be my first year teaching on the STEAM Team at LAJH. These 3-D Printing Pens will serve many purposes in my math classroom throughout the school year. Students will be able to learn how to use a new form of technology while creating hands-on resources.
These pens will help make math engaging and fun by giving my students the ability to learn the mathematical concepts taught through technology and art. During the second semester students will be able to use the pens in their Geometry section to compose and analyze transformations of figures. The pens will assist students in having hands on experiences with congruent and similar figures. In this same section they will be able to construct their own 3-D cylinders, cones, and spheres. This will assist in learning how to find the volume of these shapes.
I am most excited about implementing project based learning within my math classroom more often this school year. During the first semester of this school year students will be working on opening up their very own food truck. Part of the project is the create a model of their food truck, students will be able to use the doodle pens to create their food trucks. In addition to this project, students will also use the pens on a regular basis to create tools like doodler dice rollers. They will doodle dodecahedrons, which will then be used as dice to practice concepts such as orders of operations. Ultimately, these pens can create endless opportunities for students to work with technology and hands on resources.
