Right now, our school library is full of hard wooden chairs and bulky round wooden tables, with a small designated "reading space" that had three worn out bean bag chairs. With these flexible, comfortable, and brightly colored seating options, students will feel more welcomed into the space and more motivated to find a book they might enjoy and settle in to read it in comfort. Students are much more likely to keep reading a book if they're comfortable whilst doing so, and with more choices on where to sit, they'll be able to build reading stamina and know that we place value on their reading time. The school library serves every student in my building, and I believe that transforming the space into something colorful, inviting, and cozy will encourage students to pick up books and not only read them, but enjoy the experience.
