Students in my 7th-grade English class will be treated to the wonderful mentor text, Look Both Ways by Jason Reynolds. Reading will be paired with a daily writing lesson from Reynolds' own YouTube channel, "Write.Right.Rite." During this first "RAW Workshop" (Reading and Writing - there will be 9 workshops throughout the year), students will learn close reading strategies using the "Notice & Note" set of six signposts. I am so excited to bring this award-winning YA author, recently named National Ambassador of Young People's Literature at the Library of Congress to my students. He is sure to inspire and delight; to build authentic voices in their writing.
