My first-grade students love art, integrating art projects with learning, and technology. This summer I explored using my own Apple Pencil to draw on my personal iPad, and realized it would be such a wonderful tool for young children. We currently have Chromebooks in our classroom, but the trackpad is difficult for my students and they do not have access to any drawing programs. iPads are so much easier for primary students to use, and an Apple Pencil opens up so many possibilities for both art and handwriting applications. In addition, iPads can be used to record videos of children reading so they are better able to set goals, as well as the multitude of learning applications.
However, my primary goal is to expose young students to the potential of digital art forms, from drawing compositions to animations, as well as stop motion videos. My idea is for children to work collaboratively on bigger visual art projects, such as an animated video (from storytelling to illustrating), and to be able to share the iPads to work on individual digital art pieces.
