The goal of my project is to provide my students with a safe, clean and welcoming space to learn.
Many of my students come to school without their basic needs being met. Many are waking up their younger siblings and bringing them to school and may forget to take care of themselves in the process. By having things like deodorant, deodorant wipes, toothbrushes, tampons and pads I am giving the students one less thing to worry about when they start their day!
Students need a clean classroom, especially again this year with Covid. The district unfortunately only supplies one spray bottle of disinfectant and one roll of paper towels. Having paper towels, soap, hand sanitizer and other cleaning supplies is necessary to maintain a clean and safe space for the students to work.
Students need and deserve a welcoming classroom! I teach special education and believe in flexible seating choices for all students. Having yoga balls or students to sit on during direction instruction is essential for many of my students who have ADHD! It gives them the ability to bounce or roll instead of trying to sit still in a chair for an extended period of time.
Having these items in my classroom helps me to create a space for students to be successful!
