Light Tables are a great learning tool that enhance sensory play opportunities. The activities and learning experiences are endless and encourage a range of skills and development such as fine motor development, pre-writing skills and hand-eye coordination. "There are a lot of benefits when it comes to using a light table, the first being the benefit of learning with light." The light table will be a hit in my classroom. Every student will be drawn to it and be engaged in the activities. I will dim my room while the table is in use.
Light is a fantastic source of visual sensory input. The light table has different brightness levels that can be adjusted to fit my students' needs. The ELA manipulatives will help students with letter/sound identification, pre-writing skills and will help with spelling. The math manipulatives will help teach students sorting, counting and number identification. These will also help my students focus and will help make my classroom a multi-sensory friendly learning environment to meet the various needs and learning styles of my students. The sensory boxes will also help give my students the sensory input they need and help calm their body and mind to prepare them for learning. We will use these items as a station in my classroom daily. Teachers report that using a light table helps keep their students engaged longer.
With this project, my students will be able to use the light table and manipulatives to learn in a calm environment with hands on materials. These items will help make my classroom a sensory friendly environment and will help students maximize their learning.
