Attendance is linked to graduation rates. Our school works hard to educate our students. We create safe and inviting environments, and we offer incentives to keep the kids in school. Missing school causes gaps in learning, lack of self confidence, and anxiety. For Kindergartners, attendance can pose many challenges. Separation anxiety is real. Covid has made parents feel guilty and worried about their child's safety. Homelessness, transiency, and poverty are all factors in staying home from school. Incentives are one way to help.
I am setting up a mini eraser pet shop! We will use these materials to create mini desk pets for each child based on their attendance. They will pick out and adopt a pet, and then work for accessories, food, and decorations. Desk pets provide that small comfort they crave, and the boost they may need to get themselves to school.
These erasers are also very useful for teaching math. We categorize, sort, add and subtract, graph, and problem solve with them. They are the perfect enrichment piece!
