Due to my students' highly specialized educational needs, learning in our classroom looks a little bit different. My medically fragile students diligently work towards their goals through a variety of unique means. We focus on life skills such as walking, holding a pencil and playing with toys through fun, hands-on activities.
It is my hope that using these materials, my students will be able to engage with creative learning centers that engage their fine motors, cognitive abilities, and each of their 5 senses. Materials such as texture books and fine motor jars will assist our occupational therapy center. Sensory foam paint will further allow for texture exploration while a light table will stimulate their attention and enhance visual center work. A smell center would also be possible with the help of different kinds of scented markers. I hope to further pair the art supplies with soothing music for an auditory experience.
