Music instruments come in many different forms; rhythm sticks and tambourines are fine and dandy, but I'd like to show my students and the community how unique, special, and engaging different forms of sound/music making can be. However, my classroom has a limited amount of instruments, most of them needing to be replaced due to rust and dust, wear and tear. The things I'd like to get for the kids - rain sticks, finger cymbals, thunder tubes, and more - can help teach that music comes in all sorts of different shapes and sounds. These new instruments will be used to make sounds and music for the storybooks we read, and the songs we sing. It will allow students to be more engaged and find the joy of learning music. Students will work as small groups to create music - this will help them develop not only their musicianship, but also problem solving, collaboration, and social skills. In addition, bean bags and scarves will help students express music, and spot markers are added to help students safely learn in class.
