Tweens and young teens are all too often required to sit still and work quietly through lengthy block classes. However, the research tells us that this is not the best way for rapidly changing brains to learn!
In the most successful classrooms, fidgeting isn't punished: fidgeting is recognized as a valid way for students to release excess energy so that they can focus more clearly on their academic tasks. This assortment of flexible seating options allows students to choose what seat is best for them, whether that's seated on the floor at a collaboration station, bouncing gently on a balance ball, or wobbling from side to side on a wiggle pad or stool. When muscles are activated, brains are activated, and that makes learning accessible for everyone.
