Students with dyslexia need multi-sensory experiences to improve reading and writing skills. It is essential for some young readers to activate every sense during new learning. We will use sand, play dough, rubber stamps and dry erase boards when practicing spelling, sight words, phonics and word work. For my students, learning to read has been an challenge, some have given up, most are discouraged with their progress and that peers seem to read with greater ease and fluency. These multi-sensory tools will also bring my students greater joy in learning, and improved engagement.
