The first 'aelike (value) that we strive to promote at our school centers around the spirit of aloha, or rather, "the coordination of the mind and the heart within every person".
To fulfill this synchronization of the mind and heart, the whole person must be strengthened. We are the body, the mind, and the spirit. Each of the materials selected in this project will support one or more of those three components of the human person. The books and current event magazines will strengthen the mind, while educating about the world. The STEM resources will help to cultivate critical thinkers and problem solvers. The jump ropes will literally strengthen the heart and body. The mindfulness materials will help to cultivate a greater sense of understanding of self, others, and purpose.
At a time where humanity itself has been threatened, and students around the globe have faced growth, community, and personal challenges, the rediscovery of the human person becomes ever more necessary for us all. The "lei" in our culture is a symbol of love, friendship, and celebration. Your generosity will be like the lei, helping us to carry out the spirit of aloha within each of our students, allowing us to rebuild after a troubling couple of years, and opening the door to the right path for each of our keiki. Mahalo and Aloha!
