Special education students are visual and tactile learners. They need something tangible outside their computers to use to help them with math skills. Many become discouraged with completing complex math problems due to not having access to the proper calculator or don't know how to use them. Many of the math assignments in the curriculum require a scientific calculator. (Ex: powers, exponential functions, etc). Having access to this calculator will not only help them in this class, but also the future. Many college students go into math classes not knowing what the calculator could actually do and use it for only the basic problem. I will make sure to add this in the students curriculum so they know how to use the calculator properly and are able to use it when they advance to other math courses. This will not only help this group of students, but the years to follow.
