These hands-on manipulatives will help my students visually see the fractions and will deepen their understanding of this mathematical concept. These will be used especially to understand equivalent fractions and how fractions relate to one whole amount. Typically we will draw the fractions out but this strategy does not work to meet the needs of all of the students. Many of the students benefit from a manipulative that visually represents the amount and they can move around physically. Within fifth grade, fractions is a large standard that we explore through adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing fractions.
