I am requesting a large rug for my classroom that is much needed for many activities throughout our day. We begin each day with a Morning Meeting and having a large space where we can all feel like part of a group would be so beneficial. Right now I have only one small carpet and I am hoping to redo the space in my classroom to accommodate the larger carpet so we have more room for various games and activities. In addition, the carpet I chose is made up of colorful squares that will make it much easier to keep socially distanced but still keep a community feeling.
I also read stories to my kids at least once or twice a day and that bonding time on the carpet is so valuable. Developing a love of reading is one of my primary goals as a teacher and also what I love best about teaching.
In addition, I requesting a sort of "portable" dry erase board on an easel to use in both the carpet area and also for small groups at my kidney table. Small group time is another vital part of what is needed for my students to learn and engage. Having the tools to use visual and tactile tools ( magnets , drawing, visual cues, etc.) would also be very valuable to their learning.
