Coming from a year of pandemic, virtual, distance, hybrid... and just crazy learning where students had the option to attend class from the best seat in the house, it's more important than ever that we give them those same opportunities in the classroom! Tired of sitting at the table? No problem, move on up to the counter! Do you feel like you need to get some wiggles out? Sit and spin in your desk chair! Ready for a more comfy spot? Take a seat on the cushioned couch. It would be extremely beneficial to continue providing students with more comfortable and flexible seating opportunities upon their return to the classroom - we all know traditional desk chairs can be hard to sit in for an extended period, especially when you've been learning from the comfort of your seat of choice for the past year. Not only were students learning from the comfy and cozy of their home, they were also granted the freedom to get up and move at almost any point throughout their day.
The flexible seating options I would like to provide my students allow for movement; small bounces for the kids who have some extra energy on the active ball chairs, and the ability to spin and move in the mobile tractor seat stools. As a teacher serving many students who struggle to sit still and focus, these small movements can make a huge difference in keeping kids in their seats while needed, whilst still fulfilling their need to move, thus supporting the ability to concentrate and collaborate.
My students are eager to be able to collaborate and work together once again, the poster markers will help us collaborate in hands-on learning such as modeling different science concepts!
