Aloha,
This year my students will be participating in a project-based learning project that will ease their transition back into school. We all know that the pandemic has created constant changes for our students and families. These changes have had lasting effects on our students, some positively and others negatively. This project is focused on building trust in our class ohana as well as identify the unique qualities each student has. This project will be integrated with social students (communities), social emotional (power of yet), ELA (literature 4 books), and art.
We will start by reading the different literature each day coupled with a discussion, P4C circle, and activity. We will drive for deep thinking. We will discover that things are not always easy but they are capable and will accomplish great things. We will be learning about each other and highlighting our strengths. We will go to the experts in our community to learn about what each person does to give back to our community. We work better together when we are in our class ohana, and in our communities. We will end the project with an art project of a self-portrait and presentation via Google slides.
The project will stretch over a month and will require many resources. We also need to accommodate for distancing in the classroom, and supplies to ensure each child has access to these items. The pandemic has also affected families' finances meaning not all children will have headphones or art supplies. These items listed in the project will ensure that each and every one of my students will have access to all they need to start off the school year right.
