After learning from home for over a year, students are ready to return to the classroom and whip up amazing new skills. This project aims to getting students back in the garden and kitchen for real world math, science, and health application. After harvesting produce from our school garden, students will plan meals, create recipes, chop, measure, and cook for their classmates. How do I double or triple a recipe? What is the proper technique of holding a knife? Students will learn and practice these skills with the safety knives, vegetable peelers, and cooking utensils.
How much kalo or poi to feed a class of twenty or my family of four? Students will use the instapot, induction oven, and pans to apply their mathematics skills of halving, quartering, or doubling their culinary masterpieces. What happens when I burn the kale? A hard lesson of chemical reactions that your stomach will never forget. Thank you for your help in re-engaging our students returning from covid-19 distance learning.
