My students are expected to understand how plants can transport water throughout their bodies to support life processes, such as photosynthesis and cellular respiration. The roses will be dissected along the stem and sections of the stem will be placed in different cups of colored water. As time passes the students will be able to see the colored water moving up the stem and sections of the white petals will begin to change color as they receive water. There is a worksheet that will be assigned as a part of the project and students will have to make inferences about their observations. The students will be able to keep their rose at the end of the lesson to remind them that science can be fun.
