I teach 6th–8th graders in a separate school setting for students with serious emotional disorders and trauma. My classroom is dynamic and intentionally designed to support regulation, engagement, and growth. Each student has an individualized cubby desk space created with cabinets to form personal work areas, offering both structure and ownership. Students also have opportunities to collaborate in pairs or small groups. Instruction takes place in small groups at a U-shaped table that doubles as a whiteboard, promoting interaction and versatility. A calm-down flex space with a variety of flexible seating options gives students a safe area to self-regulate as needed. My goal is to create a welcoming, home-like environment where students feel safe, supported, and ready to reach their full potential.
