This project will help tie together the history of mechanical innovation, print becoming available to the masses, and artists such as Albrecht Dürer and Jamaal Barber. Having to design their art as a mirror image of the result they want will challenge students to be intentional. Comparing and contrasting monotype processes with relief printing will better drive home the history lesson and provide a better understanding of texture, line, positive and negative space. It will also give them the opportunity to practice handling tools for precision, and having patience while registering their prints.
