My classroom has a set of Vernier sensors, but my desktop computer is the only one we can currently connect them to. With these lab interfaces we would be able to connect them to student chromebooks so they can better collect and analyze data in real time.
These interfaces also give my students the opportunity to analyze data with different software tools giving them experiences similar to what they would see in a College level lab setting. For students that may need to work from home this would also give them the opportunity to work with real data sets instead of simulations. Especially after being in a virtual setting for a year we want to emphasize the lab experiences that we missed out on.
This equipment would better allow us to meet standards such as HS-PS3-4 to collect temperature data, or HS-PS2-3 to collect force data. Currently we have to collect this data as a class so the students are missing out on a portion of our Science and Engineering practice of planning and conducting investigations due to a lack of equipment. These interfaces would allow us to better meet many of our lab based standards.
