Raspberry Pis are single board computers that allow students to access the internet for content, produce various documents, and learn programming skills. Raspberry Pis have the same processing power as a good smartphone, and this allows them to surf the net and play multimedia content. Built into the Raspbian operating system is a suite of productivity tools that allow students to create documents, databases, spreadsheets, and presentations. Raspbian also hosts four programming tools that introduce users to the world of computer programming. With Raspberry Pis in the classroom, our students can express their learning in powerful and creative ways. More and more young people are, and will be, expected to express their ideas in digital formats. Informally many children use technology daily. Few, however, know how to do so in powerful and meaningful ways without being taught how and given the opportunity to practice. The versatility of Raspberry Pis can help our students learn the skills to make their mark on the 21st century. The Raspberry Pi's and the accessories that we have asked for, coupled with repurposed monitors and keyboards that might have otherwise been discarded, can help the children in our class meet the challenges of the future.
