During our social emotional learning time, we learn about feelings and how we can learn to regulate them in a variety of ways. We learn that feelings are natural and that having them does not make us bad. These SEL books are a fantastic way to help teach these concepts. They are colorful and engaging and will help my students connect the strategies I want them to learn into their daily lives. They are also a valuable tool if we have to go back to a virtual setting as we can still read them and do activities at home. These books are tools for myself as a teacher to help my students learn in a creative way. My goal is to get my students to manage their emotions so that they can re-join their mainstream classrooms.
Help my students understand their emotions and learn coping skills using these fun storylines and associated activities. The trauma they have faced leading to emotional distress does not make them bad kids. They just need the skills to understand and manage their feelings. These books are just the beginning of an intensive social emotional learning program to help my students succeed.
